The best ways to celebrate a cracking pole class

It’s all well and good knowing how to get back on your feet after a class has gone tits up, but it’s equally as important to make sure you’re celebrating your pole wins. I am forever guilty of glossing over what’s gone well in class and honing in on what didn’t like some sort of self-bullying shithawk, well this shall be coming to a firm and abrupt end! Below I’ve listed some of the best ways to give yourself a pat on the back, hype yourself up and just generally celebrate the wins in your pole journey. As per usual, feel free to save this list and add your own to it.

Record yourself

No, this isn’t for Instagram necessarily, this is for you to watch and re-watch to remind yourself just how much of  badass you are. If you smashed a combo or mastered a move, make sure you get it recorded or a photo taken and stick them in your Favourites folder. Whenever you’re having a shite day or feeling particularly low about yourself (happens to the best of us) look through this folder to send the brain Gremlins packing.

Journal about it

If digital recording isn’t your thing, go old school and journal about it. Whenever you’ve had a great time at pole, write down as much or as little about the class as you like. It might be helpful to note down what else happened that day that may have contributed to a cracking pole class. For example, had you had a decent night’s sleep the night before? Were you attending class feeling nourished and rested? You might start to see a pattern emerging for when the solid pole sessions are likely to occur if you journal regularly.

End your training session on a high

If you’ve managed to nail your nemesis move or record the combo, take the win and quit while you’re ahead. Chances are what you achieved was no easy feat, and forcing your body to execute it multiple times might result in you running out of steam and leave you feeling defeated thinking it was all a fluke (spoiler alert, it wasn’t). Ending the class on a high note is never a bad idea.

Treat yourself

Fucking do it. As mentioned above, pole is bloody hard, and the fact you’ve been able to do a good job of it in some capacity deserves a reward. If your budget stretches to it, why not treat yourself to some new pole wear or heels? Or at the very least a treat from the shop on the way home. Similarly, I’ll often treat myself to some new pole wear if I’ve been brave and committed to a performance.

Tell your instructor all about it

Letting your instructor know they have made your day may very well make theirs. Most instructors love seeing their students’ progress, so letting them know you’ve had a great class is a kind way to return the favour. Furthermore,  your instructor will be able to remind you of the win if you end up on the struggle bus in future classes or when you’re having a moment of self-doubt, pole related or otherwise.

Share the win with your nearest and dearest

The people in your life who want to see you win will want categorically want to hear about a decent pole class. Be they friends, family or partners, those who are genuinely invested in you will want to see you smash it at pole. I’ll quite often charge home after a decent class presenting my poor husband, who doesn’t know the difference between a front hook and a Fonji, with a video of whatever I have managed to achieve, and if I’m feeling extra proud it goes in the family WhatsApp.
